
The RS Value Team consists of 16 investment professionals who average more than 16 years of investment experience. The Team also comprises to two senior traders, who average over 24 years of industry experience.
The Team's philosophy centers around the belief that Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) is the essential measure of value. The Team seeks to identify companies with improving ROIC as research proves a strong positive correlation between improvements in a company's ROIC and the performance of its stock.
Chris Beagle is a senior equity trader. Prior to joining the firm in 2003, Chris was Principal in Sales Trading for Nation's Bank/Montgomery (which became Bank of America Securities) for five years. Previously, he was Trader for Robertson Stephens Asset Management for four years. Chris holds a B.A. in political science from University of California, Berkeley.
Timothy Bei is an analyst in the RS Value Team. Prior to joining the firm in May 2008, he was an equity research analyst at T. Rowe Price Associates for five years. Previously, he worked at Jupiter Media Corporate in their venture capital and acquisitions group and was a senior financial analyst at Piper Jaffray. Timothy holds a B.S. in history from Santa Clara University and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia. Tim is a CFA Charterholder.
MacKenzie B. Davis has been a member of the RS Value and Hard Assets Teams since 2004. He has been involved in the management of RS Global Natural Resources Fund since 2005, of RS Value Fund, RS Partners Fund and RS Investors Fund since 2006, and of RS Large Cap Alpha Fund since March 2009; he also co-manages separate accounts. Martin H. Engel is an analyst in the RS Value Team. Prior to joining the firm in January 2007, he was a generalist at Behrens Rubinoff Capital Partners LLC for two years. Martin holds a B.S. in commerce from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School.
Paul Hamilos is an analyst in the RS Value Team. Prior to joining the firm in 2011, he was a Vice President in the Financial Institutions Group at Macquarie Capital, focused on the specialty finance industry. Previously, he was an Associate at American Capital, Ltd. focusing on mezzanine debt transactions within the sponsor finance group. Paul holds a B.S in business administration, with a concentration in finance and banking, from the University of Missouri and an M.B.A from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Robert J. Harris is an analyst in the RS Value Team. He joined RS Investments in June 2005 after seven years as a financial services analyst at Dresdner RCM Global Investors, LLC. Prior to that, he was a marketing associate for Chevron Texaco Corporation. He also spent seven years as a flight engineer in the United States Air Force. Robert holds a B.A. in Political Science from Sonoma State University and an M.B.A. from Golden Gate University.
Daniel Lang is an analyst in the RS Value Team. Prior to joining the firm in 2009, he was a portfolio manager at Farallon Capital Management covering biotech, medical device, pharma, and healthcare services globally. Previously, he was a senior associate at venture capital firm Brilleon Capital US and the Co-Founder and CFO of Sapient Medical Group. Daniel's ten years of business and investment experience is preceded by a distinguished career practicing medicine. He was a Fellow in Cardiology and Post-Doctoral Research at the University of California, San Francisco and was Board Certified in Internal Medicine as Chief Medical Resident at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Daniel holds a B.A. in chemistry from Cornell University and an M.D. from Cornell University Medical College.
Scott Hartman is a client portfolio manager and an analyst on the RS Value Team. Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Scott was a Partner at Blum Capital Partners, where he spent over six years managing the firm's capital markets activities. Previously, he held CFO positions both at EGORA Holding Group in Munich, Germany, and Security Capital U.S. Realty in London, England. Scott holds an A.B. in political science from Stanford University and completed a joint J.D./M.B.A. program at the University of California Berkeley's Haas School of Business and Hastings College of the Law.
David J. Kelley has been a member of the RS Value Team since 2002. He has been involved in the management of RS Partners Fund and of RS Value Fund since 2004, of RS Investors Fund since its inception, and of RS Large Cap Alpha Fund since March 2009; he also co-manages separate accounts. Byron E. Penstock, CFA is an analyst in the RS Value Team. He joined RS Investments in August 2004 after completing an M.B.A. program at Harvard Business School in June 2004. He worked as an equity research analyst at MFS Investment Management, covering business equipment manufacturers during the summer of 2003. Previously, Byron spent two years as a corporate lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York, advising corporate clients on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and securities offerings. In addition to his M.B.A., he has a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in Canada.
Andrew P. Pilara, Jr. has been a member of the RS Value and Hard Assets Teams since 1993. Andy has been responsible for the management of RS Value Fund since 2002, and has been a member of that Fund's management team since 1999. He also manages separate accounts. Her previous investment management experience includes serving as managing director of fixed income at Goldman Sachs Asset Management from July 2001 through March 2003, where she served as a member of the investment strategy group and head of U.S. investment grade corporates. Previously, Leslie was portfolio manager and executive vice president of fixed income at Pacific Investment Management Co., from July 1993 to February 2001. Leslie holds an A.B. from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

Howard G. Most has been a member of the investment management team of RS High Yield Bond Fund since July 2008. Howard is a managing director and head of fixed income credit research at Guardian Life. He is the head of research for the Fund's investment team, responsible for overseeing the analyst team that provides the investment research that is used in making industry, issuer, and security selections. Howard has over 20 years of investment experience, and is responsible for oversight of the credit analyst team at Guardian Life. Prior to joining Guardian Life in 1998, he was a managing director at Salomon Smith Barney, having earlier been at UBS Securities and Drexel Burnham Lambert. Howard began his bond research career at Moody's Investors Service and Standard & Poor's Corporation. Martin Vernon has been a co-portfolio manager of RS Money Market Fund since May 2009. Martin also serves as the team's Federal Reserve analyst, closely following and assessing Fed activities by reviewing Federal Reserve meetings, statements, speeches and policy papers to gauge the potential future impact of Fed policy on the Fund's investment outlook. Martin joined Guardian Life in 1997, working in operations and then investment reporting. He joined the trading desk of Guardian Life in 2004, serving as a money market trader. He has over seven years of investment experience, having worked previously for two years at a private investment company, Marshal Wolf Investments. Martin holds a B.A. from Queens University Belfast with a concentration in political science, a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration and Law from the University of Ulster, and an M.B.A. in Finance from St. John's University.

Mark C. Abbott, PRM, is Managing Director and Head of Quantitative Risk Management. He joined Guardian in 2001 and is responsible for quantitative strategy, risk management, performance attribution and ALM. Mark has over 30 years of experience in institutional quantitative research and risk management at BlackRock, Barra, Global Advanced Technology, Drexel Burnham Lambert and Merrill Lynch.
Mark serves on the Board of Directors of the Professional Risk Managers' International Association (PRMIA), ACLI-SIMS Board of Advisors (2006 chair), program committees for the JOIM Conference, Investment Symposium (2007 co-chair), ERM Symposium and on several task forces of the Society of Actuaries (SOA). In 2003, he co-authored a chapter on Financial Modeling with Sam Cox and Hal Pedersen in Asset/Liability Management of Financial Institutions edited by Leo Tilman (Euromoney Institutional Investor Books 2003). Joshua is primarily responsible for the operation of various fixed income analytics and risk management software providing risk exposure analytic reports, performance attribution relative to benchmark indexes and illiquid security valuation.

Gregory Bomash is a Director and Associate Actuary and joined Guardian in 1993. He has 12 years of investment experience that includes asset liability modeling, stochastic analysis, investment analysis and valuation as well as group health financial reporting and valuation and individual life pricing. Greg is also focused on credit risk management and valuation, including corporate hybrid security modeling and credit curve modeling.

Maria Burago is Quantitative Analyst, Fixed Income Quantitative Research. She joined Guardian in 2007 and has two years of investment experience. Maria is primarily responsible for the automation and production of various fixed income analytic and credit risk management reports.

Sylvan Feldstein is Director of Municipal Bond Research. Sylvan has over 30 years of investment experience. Prior to joining Guardian in 1996, Sylvan was at Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney, Moody's and Shearson, Hayden and Stone. He is the author of over forty articles and has authored or edited five books including Municipal Bond Portfolio Management (McGraw Hill, 1995); Dow-Jones guide to Municipal Bonds (1987); and Handbook of Municipal Bonds, Volumes I and II (1983). He co-authored the two municipal bond chapters in the seven editions of The Handbook of Fixed-Income Securities (edited by Frank J. Fabozzi, McGraw Hill, 2005). Sylvan's most recent book is The Handbook of Municipal Bonds (2008). The National Federation of Municipal Analysts (NFMA) presented Sylvan with the 2009 Career Achievement Award, stating "The community of municipal analysts is indebted to Sylvan for his contributions to its professional development and education, through books, articles and presentations. We applaud his efforts to provide educational resources for the analysts of today and the future."
Sylvan received his PhD in Public Law and Government from Columbia University. He is a former president of the Society of Municipal Analysts.
John Gargana is a Senior Director, Fixed Income and a Sector Portfolio Manager for both Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS) and Asset Backed Securities (ABS). John has 18 years of investment experience. He joined Guardian in 1991, initially in the money markets area. John has been working in the structured products area since 1993, as both an analyst and trader. He has deep expertise in multiple sectors, including Residential Mortgage Backed Securities (RMBS) in both pass-throughs and CMOs across agency and non-agency product, in addition to ABS and CMBS.
John holds a B.A. in Economics from Fairfield University and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance from Clark University Graduate School of Management.
Charles A. Golden is a Managing Director and Head of the Trading Desk and also focuses on Investment Grade Corporate bonds. He is a member of the Investment Committee. Charlie has over 30 years of investment experience. Prior to joining Guardian in May 2001, he was the sales manager of the regional dealer desk at Barclays Capital. Earlier, in 1984 he started and led the bond trading desk at Morgan Stanley Asset Management and before that sold high grade, high yield, and government securities as an institutional salesperson at Morgan Stanley and other investment banks.

Diane King is a Director, Fixed Income Credit Research specializing in Industrials, Gaming, Lodging and Transportation for both the investment grade and high yield fixed income portfolios with 18 years of investment experience. Prior to joining Guardian in 2001, she was an Investment Analyst at Berkshire Life Insurance Company for 11 years (Guardian merged with Berkshire in 2001). Diane began her investment career at Putnam Investments.

Chi M. Kwok, FSA, MAAA, CFA is a Senior Director, and Investment Actuary and is the Investment Department's Asset Liability Management specialist. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a CFA charter holder. His experience includes asset liability modeling, stochastic analysis, investment and hedging strategies and financial reporting.

Betsy Monroe is a Director, Fixed Income Credit Research. Betsy has 16 years experience analyzing financial institutions, the area she specializes in for both the investment grade and high yield fixed income portfolios. Betsy joined the Guardian team in 2007. She started her career at the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank in Domestic Banking Supervision, where she spent 3 years as a bank examiner and a financial analyst. Following the Fed, Betsy worked as a credit analyst for Charles Schwab Asset Management and American Century Investment Management. Prior to joining Guardian, Betsy spent 6 years at Goldman Sachs Asset Management as a Credit Analyst, and Portfolio Manager for short duration accounts.

John Ogrodnick is a Director, Fixed Income with 9 years of investment experience. Since 2004 John has been sector analyst and trader on the structured products team. He initially developed expertise primarily in Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities (CMBS), but also works on Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities (RMBS), both pass-throughs and CMOs, as well as Asset-Backed Securities (ABS).

David Padulo is a Director, Fixed Income Credit Research with 15 years of investment experience. Prior to Millennium, he had over 10 years experience at Bear Stearns where he held a succession of positions in capital structure and convertible bond arbitrage.

Len Peltzman, CFA is Senior Director, Quantitative Research. He joined Guardian in 1993 and has 16 years of investment industry experience. Len co-manages investment risk management and quantitative research, primarily responsible for providing various risk exposure analytic reports, credit derivatives analysis, peer fund analysis, performance attribution, and asset allocation analysis.

Sadakichi (Kichi) Robbins is a Senior Director and the Sector Portfolio Manager for non-agency residential mortgage related investments. Kichi has over 25 years of institutional fixed income portfolio management and trading experience with a specialization in securitized products, rates products, and sovereign debt. He also has significant balance sheet and Asset/Liability management experience from serving as the senior treasury officer at both a domestic and international banking institution. Prior to joining Guardian in 2009, Kichi was the Senior Portfolio Manager of Securitized Products with Vanderbilt Capital Advisors (subsidiary of Pioneer Investments), Head of Treasury and Portfolio Management with Bank Julius Baer (a global private bank and asset manager) and the Capital Markets Manager at First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Rochester, NY.

Henry Rose is a Director, Fixed Income Credit Research with 30 years of investment experience. Seligman & Company where he was a Senior Credit Analyst responsible for the primary coverage of energy, metals and mining, leisure and lodging, technology and general industrial/manufacturing sectors.
